Primary ISAZ Cross Country at Lechwe School

Chengelo School were up early on Saturday 5th March to travel up to Lechwe School in Kitwe for cross country. There were six schools competing and Chengelo had runners in five races: under-9 girls and boys, under-11 boys, and under-13 girls and boys.

We arrived just in time for the first race, and our under-9 girls jumped off the bus straight to the starting line. They all ran great races and landed in the top-15. A big well done to Imani Malenga, who placed 2nd!

The sun was beating down on the under-9 boys as they ran the second race of the day. Regardless, Simeon Vissani ran an impressive race, finishing in 3rd, with Matthew Saint coming right behind in 4th.

The under-11 boys also had some great competition, with Mutende Kabwe and Ben Hammond finishing within one second of each other, in 3rd and 4th respectively.

We had three top-10 finishes in the girls under-13 race: Aeriona Nyam Gyang in 6th, Oceane Mushota in 8th, and 9-year-old Ava North coming in an impressive 10th place!

To end the day, the under-13 boys ran some great races, all of them with amazing sprint finishes. Chisalaba Bwalya was the first Chengelo finisher, coming in at 11th. The rest of the team weren’t far behind, all in the top-20. Overall positions were as follows:

U9 Girls 2nd out of 5 schools
U9 Boys 2nd out of 5 schools
U11 Boys 4th out of 6 schools
U13 Girls 3rd out of 6 schools
U13 Boys 3rd out of 6 schools

Everyone showed perseverance during the races, supported each other afterwards, and showed great behaviour throughout the day.

A big thank you to Lechwe School for hosting the event. It was a lot of fun to complete against different schools!

Well done to all the runners!
