Going… Going… Gone!

Recently, our BTEC Diploma in Agriculture Sixth Form students travelled to the Lusaka Showgrounds to visit the 2018 Stanbic Bank Livestock Auction. The event was hosted by the Herdbook Society of Zambia and the Guest of honour was the Honourable Minister of Livestock and Fisheries.

A wide selection of cattle breeds were on sale, as well as a number of sheep and goats. There were Borans, Brahmans, Bonsmaras and Santa Getrudis bulls being sold, each breed having its own strengths and applications. Top prize of the day went to a Bonsmara bull from Graham Mulders’ Alexswill Stud, which sold for K65,000!

Stanbic Bank kindly sponsored our students to visit the auction where they had the opportunity to meet experts in the livestock and agricultural banking industry.
One of our students, Adam Sherriff, said “I learnt a lot about how a livestock auction works and also what to look for in a bull. This will come in really useful if I go into livestock farming in the future.”
