Introduction
Chengelo is proud to offer the BTEC Agriculture course to students who wish to pursue a career in Agriculture. BTEC Diplomas are vocational, practical, skills-based courses, designed to provide the student with a broad base of agriculture knowledge, science, husbandry and practical skills required by employers in the agricultural industry today.
What will I study?
The course focuses on a great mixture of crop, grassland, livestock, machinery, workshop and business studies. There will be lots of hands-on practical learning to ensure you gain the basic skills needed. There will also be a strong focus on theory to ensure you have the skills and knowledge required to pursue your career.

Studying at Chengelo
You will be a Chengelo Sixth Former, staying in the sixth form hostels, with all the benefits associated. This includes access to all the social, pastoral, sporting and recreational facilities of Chengelo School.
How will I learn?
You will learn through a wide variety of methods, including lectures, group discussion, practical experience, field trips, and guest speakers.
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed throughout the duration of the course, through written assignments, presentations, farm practicals and class tests. There are no end-of-year exams!
Agriculture Facilities
Chengelo Training Farm is right on the doorstep, providing a wide range of opportunities for learning. Chengelo is situated in the heart of the Mkushi Farm Block, with a multitude of commercial farms and agribusinesses at the forefront of Zambian agriculture.
Placement Opportunities
Placement opportunities are a great way to broaden your knowledge and skills and you will have the chance to take part in work experience on a range of farms in the sector of your choice.
Field Trips
During your studies you will have the opportunity to take part in various field trips. These are designed to widen your knowledge of farming techniques and gain an insight into the many facets of the agriculture industry.
What can I do after my BTEC diploma?
On completion of the course you could enter employment in the agricultural sector, or progress onto a university-level course (please confirm with the individual university to check that they would admit you onto the course of your choice).
The course will ensure you develop the vocational knowledge, understanding and skills that are required in agriculture or allied industries.
Entry requirements
Entry requirements are the same as for studying A-levels at Chengelo Sixth Form. Please contact the Head of Sixth Form for more information.
Is the course for me?
We are offering two options:
1. BTEC Extended Diploma in Agriculture
This is equivalent to 3 A-levels and will be full time. A great option for those students planning to pursue a career in the agriculture sector.
2. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Agriculture
This is equivalent to 1 A-level and can be taken alongside conventional A-levels. A good option for those with an interest in agriculture but who are undecided as to whether they want to pursue agriculture as a career or not.
How can I apply?
The application process is the same as applying for A-levels at Chengelo. Please register your interest as soon as possible!
