FQML Rugby 7’s Tournament

On Saturday 9th February Chengelo took a very young squad to play in the FQML Rugby 7’s Tournament, hosted by Simba School, Ndola.
There were 10 schools competing, and the standard of rugby was excellent.

Chengelo won all four of their pool games with some well organised, dynamic rugby. Our ball retention and support play were second to none. The team improved each game as players gelled and confidence grew. Every player in the squad made significant contributions to qualifying for the Final, making it a genuine team effort. In a highly competitive final, Chengelo came up just short and lost to Amano School 7-0. It could have been anyone’s game, but Amano were very worthy winners in the end. We congratulate them.

To finish runners up with such a young squad promises much for the future. The ‘icing on the cake’ for the whole squad was that Marcus Nalubamba, our youngest player and probably the youngest player competing on Saturday, won ‘Player on the Tournament’ with some scintillating performances.

Well done to the Captain Nathanael Falcone who led from the front all day and a special well done to the whole squad for their immense contribution.

Roll on the Chengelo Rugby 10’s. We can’t wait.
