Chengelo reclaim Netball Championship winning for the 21st time!
Chengelo teams travelled to Lusaka for the 2022 ISAZ Football and Netball Championships that were hosted by Baobab. Our teams arrived on Friday with a mission to reach the finals. Chengelo teams included the Girls’ Football, Boys’ Football and Girls’ Netball.
The boys’ team struggled to get past the group stage with only one win and a draw and missed out on the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals. The captain, Ndabila Mulenga, did walk away with the award of “Most Valuable Player.”
In girls’ football, Jordan Rasmussen won the MVP award! The team won two matches in the group stage to qualify to the semi-finals which was won through penalties. The finals were played with half of the Chengelo team nursing some sort of injury, but what a performance from team captain Kayla Van Der Berg in defence! Silver and second place was an honourable finish for all their hard work. Well done!
Our netball team had to wait two years to reclaim the netball title to make it 21 years! The girls out-played, out-classed and out-shone when it mattered most. They played a tough final making it to half-time on equal scores but they moved up a gear to completely control the second period. Misozi Lubusha was a stand out player but it was Natasha Malokota that received recognition for “Most Valuable Player.”
Congratulations once again to the unmatched Chengelo girls’ netball team and to all the players that represented Chengelo so well at the Games. Thank you to Baobab College and all the competing schools for a great tournament.
