Mkushi Youth Development Centre visit CTF

On Youth Day this year, 20 young people and 5 organisers from the Mkushi Youth Development Centre visited Chengelo Training Farm for a tour sponsored by the Mkushi Farmers Association.

This educational tour was arranged to encourage youths to take the next step into agriculture at an early age as many people regard farming as a retirement rather than a career. The group arrived at 8.30 am for a welcoming speech from Mr Ben Frampton (representing CTF and Foundations Zambia), Mrs Amy Kingdom (Social Coordinator for the Mkushi Farmers Association) and Mr Luka Mwamba, Mkushi District Commissioner.

Following these formalities, Mr Starling Chipanga, our Acting Operations Manager, took the group to the dairy to witness the milking of our dairy cows. Several young people even got the opportunity to have a go at milking. They then visited our pig and layer units followed by a break in our Training Centre.

After break the group was very eager to see the Farm Shop where we sell all our farm produce as well as products from farmers and artisans in the wider Mkushi Farm Block. Mr Silvester Ngambela then took over the tour, showing the group around the trial plots planted and maintained by Foundations Zambia. Following lunch, Mr Chipanga led the group on a tour of the vegetable garden to see the wide variety of vegetables we are producing.

It was a great pleasure to host the group and we thank the Mkushi Farmers Association for sponsoring the tour.
