The ACS Race Team Report

It is January 2018, which means only one thing! The Adventure Challenge for Schools event has finished and now its time to tell the story.

During December, 8 students and 6 staff travelled to Stanford Lake College, South Africa to compete in the 20th anniversary event. As promised, the organisers designed a race of extreme difficulty and restricted the usual support allowed to a only a handful of checkpoints.

In total 8 students were forced to pull out of the race; a record in this event and testament to the demands of the course. Both boys and girls were stretched over longer distances and bigger hills for more hours and with less support than ever vefore. Overall this added up to an impressive feat of more than 200km of mountain biking, orienteering, kayaking and climbing.

Our teams performed admirably, displaying Chengelo’s characteristic team spirit throughout. Team Waka Waka received the Simunye Award for Best Team Spirit as a result.

This report would not be complete without special mention of Form 5 student and school leaver, Stella Chanda. This amazing young woman finished her fourth and final ACS event in style. She was awarded the prize for Most Adventurous Girl; a fitting recognition of her determination and courage over the years.

Congratulations to Team Waka Waka and Team Mulilo. You will never forget this race and be the stronger for it. Praise God!

With grateful thanks once more to our generous sponsors:
