A Message from the Ndubaluba Outdoor Centre Head
Mr. Alan Champkins
“Adventure has always been one of God’s greatest classrooms.”
For over three decades, Ndubaluba has been a place where faith, character, and adventure meet in God’s creation. As Head, I am humbled to see how every Chengelo student who comes through our gates is given the opportunity to grow — not only in skills, but in confidence, community, and Christ-centred character. A mountain becomes a mentor, a challenge becomes a teacher, and a team becomes a family.
At Ndubaluba, we don’t simply teach young people to climb or paddle; we help them discover who they are in Christ. Through challenge, reflection, and intentional programmes, students learn to persevere, to lead with integrity, and to use their God-given gifts to serve others. These moments — often experienced far from comfort zones — become defining memories that shape a lifetime.
Our story is one of transformation. As you explore what makes Chengelo unique, you’ll see a journey unfolding: from Discovering, to Belonging, to Trusting, to Serving, to Leading, and ultimately Owning one’s faith. This pathway prepares students to become Witnesses to the Light — grounded, courageous young people ready to influence Zambia and the world.
Welcome to Ndubaluba: a place where adventure forms character, where challenge deepens faith, and where every student is invited to flourish. A place that sets Chengelo and it’s students apart as Witnesses to the Light!
Welcome to Ndubaluba!
Ndubaluba sits at the heart of Chengelo’s commitment to holistic Christian education. For more than 30 years, outdoor adventure has helped students grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically. These lived experiences develop resilience, teamwork, faith and leadership in ways classrooms alone cannot—shaping grounded, courageous young people prepared for life beyond school.
Who We are
Our Vistion:
“To draw young people into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, others and creation through Christian Adventure Learning.”
Our Focus:
To support young people from Chengelo and other schools to develop Christian Faith, Character, Relationships, Environmental Stewardship and Skills through immersive outdoor experiences and temporary community.
The Chengelo Adventure Curriculum
Every Chengelo student journeys through a carefully designed adventure curriculum from Primary to Sixth Form. Programmes grow in challenge and responsibility year by year, using adventure, teamwork and reflection to form character and faith. This pathway includes Primary and Secondary adventure programmes, the Rumdoodle Awards for deeper challenge, and the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s Award—equipping students with resilience, independence and servant leadership.
What to Expect
Students are welcomed into programmes at Ndubaluba—Chengelo’s own outdoor adventure centre, set within its own natural campus a short distance from the school. Led by trained Christian instructors, programmes take place both on site and in carefully selected off-site locations across Zambia. Each experience balances adventure, fun, teamwork and reflection, supported by nutritious meals, clear routines and strong pastoral care. Safety underpins every programme, with professional training, careful risk assessment and first-aid support in place at all times.
Our Instructors
Ndubaluba instructors are full-time Chengelo staff, committed Christians and experienced outdoor leaders. They mentor, encourage and model servant leadership, creating environments where students feel safe, supported and stretched—helping each young person grow in confidence, faith and responsibility.
Our Impact
For many students, Ndubaluba becomes a defining part of their Chengelo journey. Through challenge, service and reflection, faith deepens, resilience is formed and leadership is awakened. These experiences shape young people who persevere through difficulty, lead with humility and live with courage and purpose.

what Students are saying
“Taking part in The Ndubaluba trips and Duke of Edinburgh has been a defining part of my growth. They have been a rewarding and transformative experience for me personally.”
“Ndubaluba, where to start. Coming to Chengelo school, Ndubs was one of the parts of the experience that I was really excited for. And it did not disappoint. I met amazing and lovey people while there, and learnt more about God, His love for me and how to walk in his purpose.”
