A Message from the Primary School Head Mr.Nathan Davies
Welcome to Chengelo Primary School, a vibrant learning community set amidst Mkushi’s rolling hills. Where we believe in a holistic education that nurtures the heart, head, and hands, giving children the compassion, academic foundation, and skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.
At the heart of everything is our Christ-centered mission. We teach children to love God and serve one another, building a foundation of compassion, integrity, and authentic community.
We engage heads and minds, striving for high academic achievement. Our dedicated teachers understand each child’s unique talents, ensuring they reach their full potential through an engaging curriculum that prepares them for the modern world.
Finally, we engage children’s hands. Whether on the sports field, in our diverse range of clubs, or through life-changing adventures at the Ndubaluba Outdoor Centre, students develop practical skills and interests for life. These experiences build the resilience, teamwork, and leadership essential for the future.
We invite you to visit Chengelo Primary and see firsthand our safe, nurturing environment where children are free to grow, learn, and simply be who they were made to be.

“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
Chengelo Primary: Rooted in Christ, Growing for the Future
A holistic education for the heart, head, and hands—nurturing every child’s spiritual, academic, and physical potential.
Pastoral Care & Boarding: Nurturing the Heart
At the heart of Chengelo Primary is a commitment to nurturing the soul. Pastoral care is central to our mission, guiding children to discover the love of Jesus through authentic, meaningful relationships. This warmth extends into our boarding establishment (ages 8+), where we create a “home away from home.” Our dedicated Hostel team ensures every child feels a deep sense of belonging, security, and purpose as they grow in faith and character.
Academics & Curriculum: Engaging the Head
We engage the head through a rigorous and tailored academic journey across three stages: from Pre-school to Grade 7. Built upon the UK National Curriculum, we utilize world-class resources including Cambridge English and Science, Jolly Phonics, and the White Rose Mathematics programme. From coding and computing to music and social studies, our curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and foster high academic achievement throughout the primary years.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Skills for Life
Beyond the classroom, we provide diverse opportunities for children to work with their hands and explore new passions. Our Friday Clubs offer everything from ultimate frisbee and chess to survival techniques and Design & Technology. We also celebrate our local heritage through Bemba language lessons taught through song and situational learning. Events like Adventure Day and the Rumdoodle Challenge ensure that learning at Chengelo is always an active, multi-sensory experience.
Sport & Physical Education: Training the Hands
Training the hands begins on our vibrant sports fields. Our comprehensive PE and afternoon sports programs—covering athletics, cricket, rugby, swimming, football, netball, and hockey—focus on skill-building and team dynamics. As members of ISAZ, our students regularly compete in events across Zambia, learning the value of sportsmanship, discipline, and physical excellence as they test their abilities against the country’s top-tier schools.
Outdoor Adventure: Hearts & Hands in Nature
Our unique connection to the Ndubaluba Outdoor Centre is where hearts and hands truly come alive. From Preschool children exploring through play to Grade Seven pupils discovering the Zambian bush, every child is gently encouraged to step beyond their comfort zone. In a safe yet appropriately challenging environment, students grow in confidence, build resilience, and develop their Christian faith as they learn to trust God, care for others, and wonder at His creation—forming a lifelong “can-do” spirit through meaningful outdoor experience.
Let’s talk Numbers!

what parents are saying

The time that our son spent at Chengelo Primary was a high point in his school career. The teachers showed an amazing ability to care for his emotional well-being as well as his academic progress.

Chengelo has also helped my son develop a deeper love for God and a strong sense of moral grounding. The school’s focus on character development and spiritual growth has played a key role in shaping his values.
